Pastoral Care

The Eucharist is brought to people that cannot make it to Mass. Volunteers help with the Communion service and Masses at seniors’ homes by assisting people to services, interacting with the residents in a respectful, caring manner, and perhaps volunteering to do the readings at the services and taking part in the singing.

Our Holy Family Parish has services in the following seniors’ homes:

  • Chinook Village
  • Sunnyside
  • Masterpiece
  • Good Sam’s
  • Wellington
  • Meadowlands

AGED & SHUT-IN

As we grow older the need to affirm life’s meaning continues. This affirmation is achieved through a strengthening of our relationship with God, others, self, and our environment. Through “life review,” the elder can discern the meaning of life. In one whose spirituality has been a positive influence in life, the result is a life of integrity, not despair.

Opportunities in our parishes that can provide for a deepening spiritual life for our elders are some of the following:

  • Eucharistic liturgies geared to the older members of our parish
  • More frequent communal celebrations of the sacrament of anointing
  • Where possible, entering the places where our elders live, e.g. apartment buildings, private homes, assisted living and long-term care facilities
