One parish; Many Ministries; One direction.

Unity in mission means that we are one parish with many ministries working together. If we are “one parish” we may serve in different ways, but we are moving in the same direction.

Principles

Align ministry decisions to parish vision/mission

Collaborate across ministries and share people, space, and resources

Use a unified parish voice and shared standards in communication

Protect relationships by addressing tensions directly and charitably

Principles in Action

We ask, “How does this serve the Vision and Mission of our parish?”

We coordinate calendars early and avoid competing events when possible.

We adopt parish-wide standards (communication, registration, hospitality, safety, scheduling).

We embrace ‘teams’ and ‘teamwork’ in our planning, meetings and ministries.

We share volunteers, tools and lessons learned.

We support and respect all ministries.

When conflict arises, we address it directly with the people involved and seek common ground first.

We communicate decisions and changes consistently, so parishioners receive one clear message.

Reflection

  • Do I think primarily about my ministry or our parish?
  • Where could two ministries work together more effectively?
  • Are there resources we could share rather than duplicate?
  • How do we respond when ministry priorities compete?
  • What does it look like to disagree while still protecting relationships?
  • Are we all pointing in the same direction?

The next time you encounter a ministry outside your own:

Ask yourself: “How does this contribute to our shared mission?”
