December 31, 2017

A young lad asked his mother: “Were you, dad, Nancy and I all born in the same place?”  “No,” the mother replied, “I was born in Vancouver, dad was born in Toronto, your sister was born in Regina and you were born in Medicine Hat.”  The boy seemed puzzled.  “What’s wrong?”  The Mother asked.  The boy said, “I was just wondering how God managed to get the four of us together as a family?”

The year 2017 is coming to an end.  Looking back, we should thank God for lots of things we have achieved this year in terms of spirituality and parish life.  I also thank all of you who have taken this parish as yours.  I thank you, the Choirs, who have offered your time, your voice to serve God and his people.  I thank all who participate in Liturgical Ministries, such as Eucharistic Minister, Lectors, Altar Servers, Ushers, Gift Bearers, and Greeters; without you the celebrations in our church would not be as beautiful.  I thank the Parish Council, Finance Council, Maintenance Committee, Liturgy Committee, Funeral Ministry, Arts and Environment Committee, Welcoming Committee, Pastoral Care Team, Catechists, RCIA Team, Baptism Preparation, Youth Team, D.I.V.E Team, Children Liturgy, Money Counting Teams, Soundboard team, St. Vincent de Paul Team, K of C, CWL, Office Volunteers, Cleaning Volunteer Crew, Bible Study Group, Breakfast Club, School Students and School Teachers… and who else?  YOU who come to church regularly, sit quietly, pray sincerely and give big donations secretly.  You are very valuable to the community, to me and to God.

I also offer my apology to anyone I have neglected or offended in any way.  I know that I am far from being a good pastor.  That is why I rely on you and on the mercy and power of God.  I talk to Him about pastoral work every morning and every evening.  I offer you and the parish to Him daily.  I pray that what I cannot fulfill, He will do.

We’re looking forward to a bright future for our parish with the blessing of God.  May Mary, the Mother of God, and St. Joseph pray for us and protect us.

Happy New Year!
