A man, after Saturday Mass, late for an important appointment with his clients, was searching desperately for a parking spot in a crowded lot. He remembered the priest had just said in his homily about the promise of Jesus to stay with us forever, looking up to the sky he entreated “Lord if you are present and can find me a parking spot, I promise to start going to church every weekend again.” The words were barely out of his mouth, when a spot opened up right in front of his car. The man looked back up, “Never mind I found one.”

At the Feast of Ascension, the Church teaches us that Jesus stays with us forever in his WORD, the Bible, in his COMMUNITY OF BELIEVERS and in his SACRAMENTS.  In a personal life, do you believe that Jesus remains with you and never abandons you?

One night I couldn’t sleep and as a result the next day I was so sleepy.  I didn’t want to take a nap.  I told the secretary that I went to the hospital even though I had no calls from the hospital (we can’t visit a patient in hospital unless the patients or their family call). The coffee at Tim Horton’s seemed to do a great job.  Suddenly someone approached me, “Are you a priest?” “Yes, I am.”  The man continued that his grandma was dying.  They were from out of town. She was a baptized Catholic, went to Catholic school with the nuns in Prelate but for some reasons, she didn’t want anything to do with the Church the last 50 years.

During my walk from the main floor to the Palliative ward, I really prayed.  Entering the room, a small lady on the bed gave me a sour look.  I introduced myself.  She couldn’t talk any more but she showed her emotions through her eyes.  I began my routine prayer and gave her an absolution and the Last Rite.  Before I left I saw a smile on her face.  Few weeks later, I got a thank you card.  The man said his grandma went home in peace and the smile never left her face!

Later reflecting on it, I knew that everything happened for a reason and the Lord never abandons anyone even at a moment we seem to leave him.

Have you ever read the “Footprints in the Sand?

“One night I dreamed a dream.

As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.

After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.

This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You'd walk with me all the way.

But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life, there was only one set of footprints.

I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me."

He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you. Never, ever, during your trials and testing.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you."
